Charity Fund Raising
Snell Consultancy consultants are encouraged to participate in voluntary fund raising activities for charitable causes. Over the years, primarily through sponsorship to compete in various sporting events, money has been raised for a number of notable charities. Examples of events and the charities which money has been raised for are listed below.
The Windsor Olympic Triathlon 2014
On Sunday 15th of June 2014 Ivan Snell will be racing in the HumanRace Windsor Triathlon Olympic event (1.5km swim, 42km bike and 10km run). He will be raising money for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund. Despite a 3% survival rate, pancreatic cancer has been little researched in the past. So there’s been no improvement in 40 years. Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund is a new, dynamic charity dedicated to defeating the disease through cutting-edge research into early detection and new treatments.
More information can be found at the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.
Ivan is part of a team raising money for this important charity in memory of a friend’s sister who passed away last summer to Pancreatic Cancer. Ivan is hoping to raise at least £2,500 for the charity. To sponsor Ivan please visit Ivan’s JustGiving fund raising page.
BG Energy Challenge 2012 & the Virgin London Triathlon 2012
Ivan Snell was a member of the BG Global IT team taking part in the BG Energy Challenge on 5-7 July 2012. This was a multi faceted event which challenges everyone – physically, mentally and strategically – over two action packed and demanding days. Teams ride mountain bikes across rough terrain, canoe across inland waterways, solve puzzles, crack codes, climb mountains or orientate their way through dense forest. Each BG Energy Challenge team has to raise money for charity, in the case of the BG teams for their two official charities, Sparks, a leading medical research charity dedicated to children’s health, and also CARE International.
Ivan Snell contributed to his team’s total fund raising by racing in the Virgin London Triathlon 2012 on 23rd September 2012. He aimed to raise at least £2,250 but beat this target raising £2,674: Ivan Snell’s Sparks fundraising page.
Sparks funds and champions pioneering research into a range of conditions affecting babies, children and mums-to-be. Overall, the charity has funded 233 research projects in more than 80 hospitals and universities across the UK. Through the research they aim to improve the quality of life or children and families affected by serious illness of disability today, whilst seeking better ways to diagnose, treat and
prevent these conditions in the future. More information on can be found at Sparks.
ASICS Reading Half Marathon 2008
Not having run a marathon since 1999, in 2008 Ivan decided to dust off his running shoes and run the ASICS Reading half marathon in 2008. He completed the race in an impressive 1 hour 37 minutes and 8 seconds. He aimed to raise at least £2600 for Cancer Research, but beat this target raising £3,371.
The Flora London Marathon 1999
In 1999 Ivan Snell ran the Flora London Marathon for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research aiming to raise £4000. This charity is the only UK charity solely dedicated to research into blood cancers, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. The research is focused on finding causes, improving diagnosis and treatments, and running groundbreaking clinical trials for all blood cancer patients. During his marathon training Ivan notched up over 361 miles of running. On the big day he ran the London Marathon in a brilliant 3 hours and 45 minutes, and exceeded his target fund raising, raising a total of £4,152.56 for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
